We are in the era after it caused SO MUCH, and caused so many sites to put in blocks and other restrictions to stop it from scraping everything
If they are forced to wipe their entire dataset then they won’t be able to get even a fraction of it back!
Not only that, but they would be forced to get permission of the owners for everything they use. Which would IMO, actually kill most of the issues with AI and actually make the technology into something actually useful.
I originally planned on doing a cosplay that allowed me to be comfortable at the convention….and then I saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. As soon as I saw Kingpin I thought, I MUST BE HIM. I fell in love with his character design and loved how absurdly large he was.
I started sculpting his face after I saw the movie but didn’t start on the body until a couple weeks before the convention. I basically just built a box out of insulation foam sheets with foam pieces inside that rested on my shoulders to give him height. I cut a hole out of the belly area and covered the entire body in sheer black fabric so that I could see through it without any obvious vision holes. For the arms, I bought the largest pair of black pants I could find at the thrift shop and used them as sleeves. I stuffed them with foam and ran a wire through them so they could bend and so I could easily attach my silicone hands (which were lifecasts of my own tiny hands). I ran the face in silicone and backed it with foam. I then attached the face to the body with silicone caulk. Everything else was basically attached by hot glue and a prayer.
I tried it on for the first time a couple days before the convention and realized the insulation foam was really doing its job and within seconds I was already getting warm. So, the night before the show I ran out and bought a battery operated fan that I installed under his armpit.
As much as I stressed about all the imperfections, as soon as I walked into the con and saw the reactions to it, I was immediately relieved. Seeing so many little Miles cosplayers freak out over a giant Fisk truly made my day. Doing cosplay is such an amazing creative outlet for me. I’m a full-time SFX artist, but like most jobs, I don’t have any creative freedom. Cosplay gives me the opportunity to use all these crazy skills I’ve learned and create something that brings myself and others pure joy.
Its obvious to me when people who post about canaries in mines have never met a canary. Like yeah the miners had a special device to revive the canary because canaries are one of the most adorable creatures on the planet and they make adorable little chirping sounds and honestly probably loved the sounds of machinery and people talking so it was probably loud and friendly with the workers. Whatever though maybe meet a canary sometime and youd understand
If you see this animal every day at work, and it sings to you during your hardest bouts of labor, you will be distraught if it dies. Even if you know this creature is meant to die in lieu of you, you still hear it when the labor is at its hardest and your muscles are struggling against the weight of your work. It is so small, smaller than your soot-stained hands and louder than the death that follows you. You dont want it to die. The same as a woman does not want her candle to run out ; she knows that is the point, its flame is meant to burn the wick and melt the wax ; but she is not indifferent to its wasting away. She may even save her favorite candle as not to burn it too quickly. Now imagine you are that woman, and there is a way to rebuild your favorite candle that you love the smell of and the way it flickers. Would she rather throw her candle out? Or would she rebuild it? That is a canary to these miners. Would you allow an animal to just die when it has been singing for you? It reminds you that it is alive, and you are too. Its stop of song signifies the lethal danger you are in. Why abandon it? Is the miners’ love for a little bird really that surprising?
Why does this read as though written by a coal miner of the era in which a canary was needed.
Adult ProTip, from a security professional: If a kid tells you, “My parents are gonna kill me / kick my ass / kick me out” for something relatively minor, don’t respond with shit like “Really? ;) that sounds a little extreme, don’t you think sweetie?” because that shit really does happen.
Instead, respond as though whatever threat they are afraid of is fully valid, and offer whatever you can do to help- ask if they believe they are in danger of being hurt in any way, and work accordingly.
If they’re overreacting, they’ll usually realize and dial it back, self-correct and begin thinking a bit more rationally.
If they’re not overreacting, and the danger is real, then they’ll need a level-headed adult in their corner, not another condescending authority figure who doesn’t believe them.
all goofing aside I genuinely don’t understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene™ is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you’re willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I’m not even saying you can’t enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.
Isn’t Lady Gaga bisexual?
yes that is indeed why she’s on the list of famous women who like women
why have multiple people reblogged this with some horse-assed “um actually most of these people are bi or pan” did I fucking stutter I said they like girls. what is your point. I’m going to kill you.
POV: you make a good post and then encounter tumblr reading comprehension
btw to just clarify for anyone who sees this reblog of this post
op is basically saying something along the lines of “yea ik taylor swift is bi but like. why is she y'all’s only lgbtq+ pop icon when there are all these other lgbtq+ people in the pop scene???”
i might have worded this badly but hopefully i got the main point across
hi op here I certainly did not fucking say Taylor Swift is bi

Eastern Canadian Literature: “The sea is cold and empty, like my marriage.”

A few folks have commented that the preceding post is overly reductive, and I have to admit that I was perhaps a bit glib. Here’s an attempt at a more accurate summary, then.
